Overview
This issue of Homeless in Europe explores the dramatic situation of children experiencing homelessness across Europe, from France and Ireland to Hungary and beyond. With around 400,000 children experiencing homelessness in Europe, the contributions highlight the profound impact of housing insecurity on children’s development, well-being and future opportunities, as well as the specific challenges faced by pregnant women and families experiencing homelessness.
Taking a child-centred, human rights-based approach, the issue calls for stronger political commitment, coordinated policies and adequate resources to move beyond emergency responses and ensure every child’s right to a safe, stable home. It also emphasises the importance of listening to children and recognising their voices in the policies and services that affect their lives.
