Statement EU Policy

EU’s Electrification Action Plan risks increasing inequalities

Electrification must work for everyone.

FEANTSA welcomes the European Commission's Electrification Action Plan but is concerned that it lacks the measures needed to ensure low-income and vulnerable households can benefit from the transition. Without targeted support, electrification risks deepening existing inequalities instead of reducing them.

This initial press release highlights our key messages and recommendations. The full FEANTSA statement provides a comprehensive analysis of the Action Plan and sets out recommendations to strengthen its impact.

Our FEANTSA statement outlines the key gaps in the EAP and makes recommendations to better integrate the social targets and safeguards from the legal frameworks governing Europe’s energy transition into the electrification action plan.

Electrification will only succeed if everyone can participate. The plan does not even mention energy poverty.
