Copenhagen to Endorse the Homeless Bill of Rights

Today 10th October, the city of Copenhagen is endorsing the Homeless Bill of Rights. In doing so, the city will join a growing number of cities across Europe, and become the first Danish city, to endorse the Bill. This follows a unanimous vote by the Municipal Council to adopt the Danish version of the Bill. The Homeless Bill of Rights is a compilation of basic rights drawn from European and international human rights instruments specific to the situation of homeless people. The aim of this European campaign is to encourage cities in Europe to reaffirm their commitment to respect the rights of all people experiencing homelessness.

International obligations oblige Member States to end homelessness by 2030. Under the European platform to combat homelessness, European institutions, EU governments and civil society have committed to working together to combat homelessness in the EU.

The Homeless Bill of Rights has been translated into Danish from the original English version by Pia Justesen from Aalborg University. We look forward to discovering how Copenhagen plans to use the Homeless Bill of Rights in its current and future work on homelessness.
