A UK Government plan to strip people aged 18-21 of housing benefit in order to “ensure young people in the benefits system face the same choices as young people who work and who may not be able to afford to leave home” may be revised due to its potential cost and impact on homelessness. Despite an exemption for “vulnerable” young people being made, it is thought that the Government may extend their definition of vulnerable to prevent rising youth homelessness and the spending on expensive emergency accommodation that would ensue.
