Held on 22nd November, the final conference of the Safe at Home project gave insights into 2 years of dedicated work on involving housing providers as ‘unusual allies’ in better tackling domestic violence. The project trained more than 1300 housing provider staff in the Netherlands and the UK on identifying the signs of domestic violence. Training was provided to frontline housing officers and repairs staff and focused on recognising signs that can possibly indicate ongoing domestic violence or abuse and on making the right referrals to local specialist domestic violence services who are able to follow up with the victims.

Coordinator Kadera developed the Dutch Guideline for Domestic Violence which provides housing providers with detailed guidance on how to respond to suspected domestic violence. The guideline was handed over to Minister Hugo de Jonge, Dutch Minister for Public Health, Welfare and Sport, during the conference.

The state of art report on the current response of homeless services and housing providers to domestic violence, the good practice collection and the policy recommendations & recommendations to housing providers will be available here at the end of December.

Involved partners are Kadera (NL, coordinator), Peabody Housing Provider, Standing Together Against Domestic Violence (both UK) and FEANTSA (BE/EU).
