The Local Government and Communities Committee within the Scottish Government has published a report on ways in which the Government can improve its homelessness policy in the future. Among the recommendations are for a Scottish-style Housing First approach to be implemented nationwide. In Scotland, more than 34,800 applications for homelessness assistance were made to councils in the past year. The Scottish Parliament's local government committee, who spent a year investigating, said Finland had demonstrated dramatic improvements to health, wellbeing and tenancy retention through its Housing First plan.
