In a new report, the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing examines the right to housing of persons with disabilities. She provides an overview of their diverse housing circumstances — from institutionalization, homelessness and grossly inadequate housing to experiences of stigmatization and exclusion — linked to a broad range of impairments, including psychosocial, physical, sensorial and intellectual, as well as perceived impairments. The Rapporteur questions why those widespread human rights violations have not been addressed as a priority by States or the international community. She finishes the report with recommendations on how to realise the right to housing of persons with disabilities in accordance with the commitments of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
