The Child Ombudsman has appealed to municipalities and housing corporations to do more to prevent families from becoming homeless. The Ombudsman has criticised the municipality of Amsterdam for not taking earlier action to help families in danger of losing their homes due to money problems. The number of families who became homeless and ended up in emergency care rose in Amsterdam in 2016 by 30% to 217.
