15th European Research Conference

The European Observatory on Homelessness informs you that due to potential extended travel restrictions relating to the COVID-19 epidemic in Europe, the 15th European Research Conference on Homelessness will take place online on Friday, September 24th.

Keynote speakers

Isabel Baptista (PT) is an independent researcher with over twenty years’ poverty and social exclusion research experience, with particular expertise in homelessness and gender-based violence. She is the social inclusion leader of the Network Core Team of the European Social Policy Network (ESPN) and a member of the European Observatory on Homelessness (EOH) under the auspices of FEANTSA. She has authored and co-authored several publications on homelessness, including the 2019 European Social Policy Network (ESPN) study on “National Policies to Fight Homelessness and Housing Exclusion”, covering all EU Member States and seven non-EU European countries.

Dan O’Flaherty (USA) is Professor of Urban Economics at Columbia University and member of the Columbia University Senate. Professor O’Flaherty has published widely on homelessness, authoring numerous books including Making Room: The Economics of Homelessness, City Economics, How to House the Homeless, and most recently, with Rajiv Sethi, Shadows of Doubt: Stereotypes, Crime, and the Pursuit of Justice.

The conference will take place in Central European Time. A morning plenary session with Isabel Baptista (PT) and a closing afternoon plenary session with Dan O’Flaherty (USA) will take place to enable international participation. Breakout rooms will be used for parallel webinars with two to three speakers and open discussion in 90 mins timeslots. Full video recordings of the entire conference will be available to attendees after the event.

The call for abstracts is now open

We expect submissions using recent evidence on the broad theme of ‘homelessness and housing exclusion’ from Europe and beyond. Early career researchers are welcome. Please submit a 300 word abstract and 100 word biography, in English, to Nóra Teller teller@mri.hu by June 15, 2021. The selection committee will notify speakers by July 15th, 2021. Presentations are due to be submitted by September 10th, 2021.

Fees

Although the conference is moving online, a modest contribution upon registration to cover IT support and organisation expenses is requested. Thank you for your understanding. Presenters and PhD students pay a fee of 30 EURO, early bird participation fee before September 1st is 60 EURO. Participants registering after September 1st pay 75 EURO.
