Participation and empowerment are core objectives of the Viennese Assistance for the Homeless. Participation is a way of working that empowers people to participate in decisions and actions that affect their lives. Peers who take on peer support roles can feel empowered. A peer is in a unique position: because of their personal experience, peer workers have expertise and real-world knowledge that professional training cannot replicate. In order to utilize this expertise, the Viennese Assistance to the Homeless launches its first certificate course for peer workers by February of 2019.
