The new initiative, announced on the 13th of August, aims to provide permanent homes for those leaving temporary hostel accommodation or fleeing domestic abuse. The fund is part of a larger £100 million, the remainder of which has been reprioritized from other initiatives. It is estimated that there are close to 5000 people sleeping rough in the UK, with numbers rising consistently. In 2018 alone, there was a 15% rise in rough-sleeping over the previous year.
