The Irish Government has announced its budget for 2018 on October 10, World Homeless Day. With the homeless crisis taking dramatic proportions in Ireland, homelessness organisations were hoping for serious budgetary commitments. On the one hand, they are positive about the additional funding for homeless services and the increase in the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP). On the other hand, homelessness NGOs are disappointed that an empty homes tax wasn’t announced in Budget 2018, ICHH Dublin concluded the government "does not take the homeless crisis seriously" and called the budget 2018 "an insult to anyone experiencing homelessness."
