Held on World Homelessness Day, this workshop will focus on the role of the ESIF in the fight against homelessness. It is an opportunity to explore good practice and foster mutual learning, exchange and reflection. The aim is to support regions and cities to use the ESIF as a real lever for progress in the fight against homelessness.

Homelessness is one of three priorities of the Urban Poverty partnership in the EU Urban Agenda. It is a serious and worsening social problem in the EU. ERDF, the ESF & FEAD are all used to varying degrees to address it. The fight against homelessness is in line with EU policy objectives of sustainable, inclusive growth; the fight against poverty; protection of fundamental rights; social fairness etc. The right to housing and the right to shelter are priorities of the European Pillar of Social Rights. The EU’s commitment to “leave no-one behind” in the framework of the UN sustainable development agenda lends urgency to the issue.

This workshop will allow ESIF practitioners from regions and cities to explore successes and challenges in using cohesion policy as a lever for the social inclusion of the most vulnerable in society. The workshop is linked to the Ending Homelessness Awards, to be awarded at the Regiostars ceremony.

The European Week of Regions & Cities is a European networking platform for experts in regional and local development. Exchange of good practice in economic development and social inclusion, cross-border cooperation, public-private partnerships, regional innovation and community-led local development have become some of its many topics.

In the evening, the FEANTSA Ending Homelessness Awards will be given out at the RegioStars Awards - click here to find out more and to register.
