Danish researchers Lars Benjaminsen and Jesper Fels Birkelund have conducted research into to what extent excess morbidity among homeless shelter users can be explained by homelessness or other risk factors. Their main conclusions were that ill health amongst homeless shelter users is widely explained by substance abuse problems and other risk factors. Nonetheless, for many diseases homelessness poses an additional risk to the health. Click here to read the research piece in full.
