After noting the dearth of academic literature on women’s homelessness in Portugal, Ana Ferreira Martins, director of the social section of International Medical Assistance, has written The Homeless from Lisbon – Women Who Dream of a House, a study of women’s homelessness in the city. In an interview with Expresso, Martins discusses the role of domestic violence in causing women’s homelessness and highlights the fact that most of the homeless women she surveyed had children.
