The paper seeks to unravel the complex relationship between housing and health by examining the health impact of housing deprivation. It looks at the health situation and needs of people experiencing homelessness and the way in which these health problems relate to the housing exclusion which they are suffering. In this way, the paper explores the different ways that housing plays a role in relation to health.

"Towards an EU strategy on Mental Health: Taking Account of the Mental Health Needs of People experiencing Homelessness"
This paper briefly outlines the nature and scope of the problem of mental ill-health among people experiencing homelessness and how this serves to worsen their situation and further cement them into a situation of extreme exclusion. It examines how meeting the needs of this vulnerable group relates back to the strategic policy objectives of the EU. Finally it looks at some of the proposed elements of the future European strategy on mental health and assesses their potential and relevance for people experiencing homelessness and housing exclusion.

Tuberculosis and Homelessness: The growing problem of tuberculosis among homeless people and other vulnerable groups: the need for concerted action at European level to tackle this public health problem [12/1/2005]
Tuberculosis is a disease that is historically associated with poverty and indeed it is a disease that has a great deal of stigma attached to it. The reason that TB has been associated with poverty is that inadequate and unsanitary housing, overcrowded conditions and deficient nutrition greatly raise the risk of infection with TB. The exposure that rough sleepers experience, places them at risk, as do the conditions in hostels and shelters.

FEANTSA reaction on the Commission's proposal for a DIRECTIVE ON SERVICES [3/11/2005]
This is FEANTSA reaction on the "Bolkestein directive". FEANTSA warns that competition with for-profit service providers will be at the expense of very vulnerable people, such as the homeless. Homeless people are a too fragile part of the population and do not have the necessary power -neither as voters nor as "consumers" of services - to ensure adequate quality of the services they need. FEANTSA calls for homeless services, and by extention all not-for-profit social services, to be excluded from the scope of the draft directive.
