As part of its annual theme in 2005, FEANTSA, in partnership with FNARS Ile-de-France (French national federation of reception centres and organisations working in social reintegration – regional branch for the region of Paris-Ile-de-France), is organising a Conference on social emergencies and crisis intervention in large European cities on 27-28 October 2005, with the support of the European Commission and the City of Paris.
The aim of the Conference is to bring together, for the first time, the various actors across the EU active in emergency services for the homeless and exchange the different existing practices and strategies on social emergency services. At the conference the FEANTSA 2005 European Report on Social Emergencies in large European cities will be presented, as the result of the annual FEANTSA transnational exchange in 2005, which involves its large EU-wide network of homeless services organisations. This report will be compiled based on the National reports on Social Emergencies produced by FEANTSA member organisations.
The conference targets all actors involved in social emergency, including policy-makers at EU, national and city levels, public emergency services, and NGOs that provide emergency services. The objectives of the conference is to explore the existing policies and approaches across the EU that govern social emergency; to bring together and present the main actors involved and their role; to examine the scope and nature of the problem of social emergencies, including the profile of the population in such situation; to present and analyse the current practices in social emergency services, including statistics and data collection; to evaluate the efficiency of these strategies and their impact on people in such situation; eventually, the debate on social emergency will define the relevant challenges for policy-makers and actors in this area.
FEANTSA members are invited to disseminate the announcement on this Conference to any partner organisations or public services that could be interested in attending the conference.
With the help of members of the FEANTSA Administrative Council the Conference organisers are trying to invite the mayors of some of the major capital cities of the European Union.
