Poland

The official number of homeless people according to governmental statistics is estimated at 200 000, but can be multiplied by three due to the strict eviction laws from both rental houses and apartments. Only 10-15% of persons are able to find accommodation provided by organisations working with the homeless. The homeless often find themselves with no options for shelter or social services.

Social organisations are thus taking up the fight to change the prevailing legal conditions in their campaigns to combat homelessness.

Most NGOs in Poland still concentrate on providing occasional support, that is shelter, meals and clothing. Click on 'Barka' to read how FEANTSA's member organisation in Poland is revolutionising the field of service provision to the homeless.
